Fashion Designer

Rachael Cassar is a Sydney based couture fashion designer that combines powerful, dramatic, ‘edgy’ designs with a genuine concern for the impact the fashion industry has had and is having on the environment. As such Rachael uses deconstructed garments and recycled fabrics in all her one-off designs.

In essence, Rachael says she is Up-Cycling rather than re-cycling, creating fashion that is non-trend based, and designs that are special, personalised and at present, hand made. The garments will never date, they will be relevant years after their conception which encourages ‘slow’ design, design that is not obsolete, and will not end up in landfill!!

Today Rachael Cassar is being recognised nationally and internationally not only within the Eco Fashion Movement but also in the wider fashion industry. She has achieved this by following her vision that design aesthetics are paramount in fashion and that women should not be expected to sacrifice anything for environmental sustainability.

In April 2007, four months after graduating, Rachael launched her brand Rachael Cassar. In the same year she achieved a significant boost to her career by winning the International Competition for emerging designers – Mittelmoda – in Italy.

Rachael followed this up with catwalk shows in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and London, was elected a ‘designer to watch’ in 2009’ by the global fashion industry trend analysis company WGNS in the UK, won the inaugural In Style Women of Style scholarship and exhibited at London Fashion Week in September 2009.

To date, Rachael’s collections have been seen on catwalks throughout Australia, in Italy and the UK and in January 2010 she entered into an agreement with a Los Angeles Public Relations company to promote her work in the USA. Rachael’s designs have now been worn by celebrities such as Riahnna and Kristen Stuart, and appeared in numerous fashion magazines

In September this year Rachael launched her newest range, Six2010 Ecotoure Collection.
